I strongly dislike summer. I don't like being hot and sweaty, I don't like the lack of clothing all around, but most of all, I don't like swimsuits. In fact, I loathe them. I feel fat and exposed and uncomfortable. And fat.
The other day I was at Old Navy and all of their swimwear was $6. I figured, well, at least if I have to wear something I hate it will only cost me $6. So I bought this:
It was originally $30. Pretty good deal huh? I love the chevron pattern. Love. What I didn't love? Well, besides the fact that it was a swimsuit, I didn't love the fact that it was WAY too big. So why did I still buy it? Well, it was the only thing not a bikini that wasn't 3 sizes too small, and I figured I could take it in easy peasy. And while I was at it, I decided to make it a little less, um... revealing. So I dug through my dresser to come up with this:
An old swimsuit that was too small and too short. It was time for that old suit to go under the knife. And I really liked this detail on the back:
So, I took it in on the sides, added a piece of the old black suit to cover up a bit more (or rather, at all. It was not pretty before.)
I used the bottom part of the suit so it was already hemmed for me. Genius! And then on the back, I added that strap part to help hold the back of the suit up since it kept falling down before.
Ta da! I actually ALMOST want to go somewhere that I'll have to wear a swimsuit now! Not really, but at least if I'm forced to wear one, I'll be much more comfortable than I would otherwise have been!

LOVE.
amazing!!! I like the re-done version better!!!
Wow! You were brave to take on remodeling a swimsuit. All that slippery, stretchy stuff would give me a headache - way to go! It turned out super cute. =) Maybe you can wear it to the ward beach party next Saturday?
You are BRILLIANT! haha :) Happy to have found your blog :) New follower!
