Privacy Please

I am contemplating going private with my blog.

What are your thoughts? To go private or not to go private, that is the question.  Would you still read my blog if it was private?  Would you stop reading?
Anyone else out there with a private blog?  Do you prefer limiting who can see your posts?  I'm not sure what I'm going to do, but it is definitely an idea I'm tossing around right now, and it's something I've been thinking about for a little while now.
I want to hear your opinions...

I love having my blog private. It gives me so much peace of mind. The only downside is people not knowing when you have updated your blog. That's why I made my old public blog a news feed type thing for when I have a new update with links to the private post.I transferred everything from the public blog to a new private blog and it's worked out great for me. I still get the usual amount of people reading. You just need to get lots of email addresses. Sometimes it's stupid and decides to kick people off the reading list but it's not a frequent thing and it's worth it.

I have mine private for a few reasons. First, I happen to have a few acquaintances that I'd really prefer didn't get into my personal or family life. They're fine people, but they are people I only talk to about certain things. Second, there are people I don't know and have never heard of who, for that very reason, don't need to be finding and reading my blog because... Third, the purpose of my blog is mostly to help me remember the events in my life and the little things I learn/realize on a regular basis. Mine is not a blog that links to cute ideas and yummy recipes or gives great book reviews for the general public. So I guess it comes down to what the purpose of your blog is and who you want reading it. I would still read your blog if you went private. :-)

Agreed. I have the same thing as Kristen and it works pretty well, I think. I would certainly still read your blog but the "front door" thing definitely helps so that if people put you on their blog roll it will show when you update.
