On my mind...

It's been a long time since I posted. I just haven't been able to find the motivation to post about my completely 100% boring, uninteresting, uneventful life. What I'm about to share has been on my mind since Christmas and something keeps nagging at me to post it, so here goes.

For Christmas I got the movie "Up." I had never seen it, so on Christmas day we watched it with my family. I was incredibly touched by the message of that movie. If you haven't seen it, it is super cute. The movie is about Carl, who meets a young girl, falls in love, gets married and makes big plans to go on an adventure with his wife to a waterfall in South America. Carl's wife gets cancer and dies, and he is devastated. Years later, the land all around his house has been bought out by developers and they are building condos and high rise apartments all around him, but he refuses to sell out because his house is where he and his wife first met and where they lived their whole life together. He fills hundreds of balloons with helium and flies away in his house to South America. Through a series of unfortunate events a bunch of the balloons pop, and the house is left hovering 20 feet off the ground within sight of the waterfall he had waited to get to all his life. So Carl ties his garden hose around his waist and started off toward the waterfall, dragging the house along behind him. All kinds of things happen along the way, but Carl is unwavering. He won't let go of the house, and it prevents him from progressing and having other adventures.

As I watched this movie and watched Carl struggle with his house that he refused to let go of, I was touched by the parellel this has to our own lives. How often does something we refuse to let go of prevent us from moving forward in our lives? What are the "houses" that each of us is dragging along behind us, keeping us from reaching our goals? Is it language? Gambling? Lying? Laziness? There are so many things in this life that can keep us from moving forward, but I know that if we work hard and do our best to cut away the "house" that is tying us down that we will be so much happier. Our lives will be better and as we grow and progress and draw closer to our Father in Heaven. I know that if we strive to become the best version of ourselves that we will be blessed and will be able to feel our Savior's love surrounding us, lifting us up and giving us strength.

Kim, I love you. You're so deep and thoughtful. I also love this movie and love that it also shows that the adventure you plan on having isn't always the one you end up with--which can be a good thing.
